The Top 7 London Cocktail Bars

Angel Castellanos Last Updated: March 28, 2025

Home > travel-blog > England > London > The Top 7 London Cocktail Bars

Been on the hunt for the perfect cocktail bar or pub in London? I’ve hit the streets, gathered intel from locals and fellow enthusiasts, and personally checked out every spot on this list. Trust me, these are the real deal. Here’s my handpicked selection of the best cocktail bars in London.

Pro Tip: If you’re planning a trip to London, consider bookmarking our dedicated London page with articles on Westminster Abbey, Stonehenge, and more!

Top Cocktail Bars in London

Let’s be real—London’s got some of the best cocktail bars in the world. If you’re into craft cocktails or just want to enjoy a drink that’s a little more than a basic gin and tonic, this city’s got you covered. But with so many options, it can be tough to know where to start. That’s why I’ve put together this curated list—bars that are on top not just for the drinks, but for the service and vibe. These spots aren’t just places to grab a drink, they’re experiences you’ll be bragging about long after you leave.

Swift Soho

£ | Hip | Soho

Swift is the heart of Soho, but once you step inside, you can lose yourself from the outside world in two bars. If you have a reservation for downstairs, then you will find yourself in a dark, low-light, intimate, speak-easy vibe. Upstairs, upon entering, the energy is much more lively, and guests are allocated to a variety of different counters and high tables. I would stay upstairs for a small group, and for a romantic evening or curated cocktails, I would reserve a spot downstairs.Although the cocktail menus vary slightly, the quality of drinks at either bar is excellent.

Address: 12 Old Compton St, London W1D 4TQ

The Donovan Bar

£££ | Classic Cocktails | Mayfair

The Donovan Bar, led by legendary mixologist Salvatore Calabrese, is a top-tier cocktail destination in London. Known for its expertly crafted classic cocktails like Negronis and Martinis, it stands out as a premier spot for connoisseurs. The bar’s menu includes some of the most exclusive and expensive vintage cocktails, reflecting its commitment to quality and luxurious ambiance. The experience is further elevated by aperitivo accompaniments, such as 18-month-aged Parmigiano Reggiano and flavorful olives, making every visit a refined blend of taste and sophistication. It’s hard to visit London without stopping by for what I consider the best Negroni in the city.

Address: 33 Albemarle St, London W1S 4BP

The Connaught Bar

£££ | Expert Mixology | Mayfair

An unknown secret is that many of the top cocktail bars in London are owned or operated by Italian masters of craftsmanship. The gorgeous Connaught bar inside the famous Connaught Hotel is a testament to that craftsmanship. Whether you order a Martini prepared at the tableside or one of their curated menu drinks, you can be sure your bartender will expertly craft your cocktail. The professional service here can be a masterclass in hospitality. This bar is “posh” as the Brits say, so keep that in mind before arriving.

Address:  The Connaught, Connaught, 16 Carlos Pl

Side Hustle

££ | Nomad Hotel | Covent Garden

Inside the Nomad Hotel, you’ll find the trendy cocktail bar Side Hustle. Although the marble bar and attractive plush booths give this place an upscale feel, it still has a casual and convivial air. I love their Negroni variations but try the Latin-inspired curated cocktails. If you get hungry, they have a food menu. Side Hustle is the spot for pre-show drinks or meetups near Covent Garden.

Address: Old Police Station Entrance, 28 Bow St.

Aqua Shard

£££ | Restaurant & Views | London Bridge

This restaurant and bar is located on the 31st floor of the iconic Shard building. T e views of London could not be more epic, and if you can snag a table at sunset, you and your date will not regret it. T e cocktails are themed, and the food and views are a winning combination. T e pro move is to book the Starry Night Bar Experience, including a special cocktail, aglass of Champagne, and a Chef’s Selection Platter.

Address: Level 31, The Shard, 31 St Thomas St, London SE1 9RY, United Kingdom

Amaro Bar

Negroni at Amaro Bar London

££ | Hip & New | South Kensington & Chelsea

If you are considering taking your friends on a pub crawl, bring them here instead. This intimate spot is a stone’s throw from Kensington Palace and worth visiting. All of the standards, in addition to their curated cocktails, are carefully hand-crafted. They even have cult favorites to rare bottles you didn’t know you needed to try, like the sub-zero temp Martini. The vibe is effortlessly cool, with hip lighting and high ceilings. Every drink at Amaro feels premium and like an invitation to a secret club. I’m so pleased I discovered this place on a recent visit to London.

Address:15 Kensington High St, London W8 5NP, United Kingdom

Tayer + Elementary

£ | Pre-batched Casual | Islington

Tayer + Elementary is one of London’s premier cocktail bars, consistently earning top rankings. T+E is bar is located in Islington, East London, near Shoreditch, just minutes from the Old Street station. The space here is limited, and the cocktails served from a tap are pre-batched daily. I m not a fan of pre-batched cocktails, but I will admit they are delicious. What’s missing is the visual element of seeing the bartenders skills before your eyes. Although this crucial element is missing, the craftsmanship and skill of the mixologists at Tayer Elementary is evident. The low-key, casual vibe does not reflect this bar’s popularity, so it’s best to arrive early.

Address: 152 Old St, London EC1V 9BW, United Kingdo
