For me, family-friendly doesn’t mean that they have a little sticker on their site that says “we love kids!” It means that you, as a parent, will be able to relax at the hotel because it accommodates kids. I look for a few key elements.
Space for kids to move around. That could be a rooftop, courtyard, or nearby park. Larger rooms so you don’t feel cramped. They may just have larger rooms, or they are on the cheaper side so you can upgrade your room. A pool is also a big bonus, but you can’t find that everywhere.
Traffic is a big concern for me, so I avoid properties on high-traffic streets. I break that rule occasionally if the hotel is also close to a peaceful park or pedestrian area to run around.

Hotel Regency is a small but very nice hotel on the edge of central Florence. I wouldn’t say it is “far” from anything because, just like I will mention with some other hotels, downtown Florence is so small that everything is nearby. You can easily walk to Accademia where Michelangelo’s David is housed, in about 10 minutes.
A big reason I like this hotel is they have a nice outdoor garden and seating area which will allow you to unwind after a long day walking around the city. Kids need to run around, and an enclosed area with some plants is perfect for them to let some steam out without fearing they will run into a high-traffic street.

I really like Plaza Hotel Lucchesi for many reasons. First, it has an epic pool on the roof, which is great for a hot summer day. It is also simply a nice hotel with classic charms, which is something that adds to the experience of visiting an old-world city like Florence.
Any hotel with a pool is immediately considered “Family-Friendly” in my book. Needless to say, kids love pools and parents love rooftops which makes this hotel ideal!
The map may make it seems like it is “far” from all the action in Florence, but Florence is simply so small that this is an optical illusion. You can be at the Uffizi Gallery in less than 10 minutes by foot. It is well connected to the entire city reasonably by foot and near some great restaurants. This is why it gets my thumbs up!

You also get amazing views of the Medici Boboli Gardens and Florence’s more “rural” side. This is an excellent choice for families with kids or travelers who like to see a different side of Florence.
This is a pretty excellent choice with good value. It is a well-layed-out and neatly decorated ancient palazzo featuring rooms and apartments. It is an excellent choice for families looking for more space.
You would likely see me in the above room if traveling with the wife and kids. I genuinely believe that a little extra room and fresh air goes a long when traveling with the children.
You’d also get the option of getting take-out for your balcony which would save you the stress of trying to keep the kids stationary during dinner. A stressful dinner out could be replaced by a super-memorable and enjoyable night on the balcony drinking wine and dancing to music with your kids!

Hotels like Palazzo Castri 1874 are a mystery to me. They somehow are in the center of a city but have this expansive outdoor space. Their pool is small but perfect for a central-Florence hotel. This hotels is great for couples, kids, and anyone who wouldn’t mind taking a “dip” after a long day of exploring!
When I am not traveling and filming our youtube channel or writing articles like this one, I am normally tending to my flowers. I simply love nature which presents a big struggle when I am planning a vacation in a crowded city. This is why I love hotels like Monna Lisa. There is a nice garden that is tucked away from the crowds and commotion.
These types of open spaces and gardens not only make it great for families but absolutely magical for kids. Italians love children so you could easily sit in the garden and enjoy a glass of wine while your kids run free.

Hotel Croce di Malta is a great option for a budget-friendly traveler who wants to get a lot of amenities at a low price. The hotel probably needs some updating, but the price is very low and they have a pool, in the center of Florence, large enough to do laps for exercise enthusiasts.
Definitely a great option for families traveling to Florence who can’t run their kids ragged for an entire day or for budget friendly travelers who like some exercise.

For what you get, Hotel Ginori al Duomo is an incredible deal. It is centrally located, rooms are nice, it has a pool and he place is very characteristic. For under $200/night in June, I would book this hotel in a heartbeat.
Great for families who want to upgrade to a larger room with the kids so everyone can spread out.
Grand Hotel Minerva is a great option if you want a central location in Florence, a pool, and rooftop dining. All you need in return is a lot of money!
The hotel is a very nice hotel and actually reasonably priced considering how nice it is, all the amenities, and the location. In June you’ll pay over $400/night which puts it in the top tier, but if you have that type of cash to spend then this one literally checks all the boxes.
Hotel Torre di Bellosguardo is a great option for an adventurous traveler looking for some green-space. It is definitely not in the “center” of Florence but still has a Florence address.
Florence goes from city to countryside much faster than a city like Rome which is one of the things I like about it. If you have kids and want to have a memorable and slightly different experience than most, consider Bellosguardo or another “outside of Florence” style hotel.
