Bigoi
€ | Takeaway | Italian Fast Food
So we don’t always want to have a sit down lunch. You might be running from one site to the next. I introduce you to the Venetian version of McDonalds with an Italian twist. The perfect budget lunch when on the run.
Their innovative approach starts with freshly made pasta. At that point, you can then choose the sauce you want. The menu ranges from pasta with meat sauces, to pesto to even fish like pasta with sardines. A new experiment in my book has been successful!

Cantinone Del Vino Già Schiavi

This is a historic structure in Dorsoduro. There is no place to sit so you have to eat and drink standing. While this might seem strange, it is the custom and way so why buck the trend?
You won’t find anything fancy. What they serve are glasses of wine and finger food which are called cichetti. You can find many seafood options and also many vegetarian options as well. Be a local and check this place out.

Ristorante La Bitta
€€ | Homestyle | No seafood!
People come to La Bitta when they want a meal that feels homemade. It is a quaint establishment that has a cozy atmosphere and puts you directly at ease. I can say that there are very few places like this left in Venice.
As for the menu, there is no seafood! I know that this is very strange to say, but it is true. Instead of seafood, sit down to enjoy radicchio in a cream sauce or the artichoke salad. Then move on to the pasta and meat dishes. If you are tired of seafood or want to be a bit more local, come on down!

Located in Campo Santa Margherita, this is a favorite with locals and tourists alike. Expect it to be busy and you might have to wait for a table, but order a glass of Prosecco, it’s worth the wait.
The menu itself is quite small. You won’t find all the typical cicchetti , but a delicious “tagliere” full of prosciutto, mortadella, porchetta and other fresh meat cuts available. You can also sit down for a full meal as well.

A typical osteria that you choose when you want to taste local, Venetian cuisine. Their meat, fish and vegetarian dishes are all prepared according to the traditions of the area. Their wine list is also quite impressive for a small establishment.
You can come in just for some cichetti and snacks and wash it down with a glass of wine. If you are still hungry, enjoy some hot, typical meat and seafood dishes. The tables are long so that you will sit down next to others. Start a conversation with them and enjoy the day!

Osteria Enoteca Ai Artisti

The word enoteca literally translates as wine bar, so you already know what you can get when you show up. What the name doesn’t tell you is the refined cuisine that you can eat when you go inside. This small restaurant is on a small canal, but the flavors are huge. If you are in the area, definitely give it a try.
While they do offer some typical Venetian dishes, I would say that the kitchen has come up with some new twists that your palate will enjoy for sure. From various stews to pasta with black truffle shavings, you will come back for more. Don’t forget the wine!

Osteria Ca’ del Vento
€€ | Great Atmosphere | Puglia + Venetian Cuisine
This osteria has a chef that is from Puglia. Now before you say anything, she has lived in Venice for over 15 years, so she has become Venetian but she brings the warmth and flavors of Southern Italy to the harsher, Northern climate. The prices are reasonable and will have you coming back for more.
The restaurant sources all their food either locally or gets fresh products from Puglia in Southern Italy where the chef is from. Want to try something different? How about tuna with sesame and onion jam. Or Ravioli stuffed with Burrata and Branzino fish. Is your mouth watering yet? It should be, so come on over and eat a delicious meal.

There are sometimes restaurants that you can visit if you want to rub elbows with politicians and the elite. Come to ai Gondolieri if that is your thing. Or if you happen to have just finished a visit to the Guggenheim and are hungry, then it is also a good reason to stop by.
As for the cuisine, you can go with local favorites such as Fegato alla Veneziana ( Liver with onions) or something more unique such as Cream of Pumpkin with toasted almonds. The menu is varied enough between meat and fish to find something for everyone. They even have vegetarian and vegan options.
