10 Best Places To Eat And Drink In Amalfi, Amalfi Coast
Many people don’t know that there is also a town called Amalfi, on the Amalfi Coast. Everyone has seen pictures of the Amalfi Coast. It is hands down, one of the most beautiful places on earth. As a result, many people want to come and visit, which makes sense. When you have a lot of tourists you are bound to see many tourist trap restaurants, so you need to be careful.
Since nobody likes tourist traps ( myself included) we have asked our local guides to put together a list of their favorite places when they are in this town. We hope it helps you take the guesswork out of your decision and focus on enjoying your vacation. Buon Appetito!
Pizza Express
€ | No Frills | Take-out
We start the list off with something simple. What I mean by that is that sometimes you don’t want a long, sit-down dinner. You might want to have a quick meal so that you can go night swimming in the sea. Therefore our first option is Pizza Express.
The main fare is pizza here as you can imagine by the name. They also offer various calzones, sandwiches, and even roast chickens with potatoes. Enjoy a quick, but delicious meal and that’s why it is one of the best restaurants in Amalfi.
Address: Via Pietro Capuano, 46, 84011 Amalfi
Hours: 10 AM- 10 PM Always open
Cuoppo d’Amalfi
€ | Streetfood | Seafood
Sometimes you are looking for a snack after all that sightseeing. As with the above option, you might not want to a sit-down lunch, but something on the go. You might also be tired of pasta or pizza, so this is the perfect place!
Cuoppo offers various fried options of seafood that eat with a large wooden toothpick. The seafood is lightly battered so as to not be very heavy on the stomach. The usual offering is fried calamari, shrimp, and even sardines. The best drink to wash it all down is with a cold, local beer. And this is why Cuoppo is one of the best restaurants in Amalfi.
Address: Supportico Gaetano Afeltra10, 84011 Amalfi

L’Abside
€€ | Outdoor Seating | Local Dishes
This restaurant is located right in the center of Amalfi, just off the main street. You will find many tourists eating here, but the quality has remained high so I definitely recommend a visit to try some local dishes of Seafood.
While they have something for everyone here including meat and vegetarian dishes, I would highly recommend the seafood dishes. In particular the sciallatelli with seafood which is a fat pasta with various shellfish including mussels, clams, and shrimp. Wash it down with cold white wine and you are good to go.
Address: Piazza dei Dogi, 31, 84011 Amalfi
Hours: 12 PM- 3 PM, 6:30 PM- 10:30 PM Closed Tuesdays
La Carcara
€€ | Family Run | Away from the crowds
Another restaurant that is a bit of a trek from the main center, but here as well the restaurant offers a shuttle service to/from the restaurant. Therefore head up to the hills for beautiful views and more importantly a great meal.
Gino and Lucia are the owners and love to welcome new guests to their restaurant. Whether you are looking for fish or grilled meat, they have something for everyone to try.
Address: Via Castello, 1, 84011 Amalfi
Hours: 12 PM- 3:30 PM, 6 PM- Midnight
Pizzeria Donna Stella
€€ | Super Friendly | Who doesn’t love pizza?
If you follow us in general and read our articles you will know that we don’t include many pizzerias for the simple reason that it is easy to find good pizzerias in Italy. However some are better than others and that is why I decided to include this particular one. Pizza was invented in Naples and the best pizza style is neopolitan style pizza and that is what you will find here.
You can choose to sit outside in the lemon garden and enjoy your pizza. In most sit-down pizzerias in Italy you can also eat various starters like a fritto misto ( lightly battered fried vegetables and fish). Your main course will be of course pizza, but you might not have known that the drink of choice with pizza is actually beer and not wine. You can of course order whatever you what, but just some food ( or drink) for thought.
Address: Via, Salita d’Ancora, 4, 84011 Amalfi
Hours: 11 AM- 3:30 PM, 6:30 PM- 10:30 PM Closed Tuesdays
La Taverna di Masaniello
€€ | Friendly Staff | Seafood
As you walk towards this restaurant you might get lured in by the owner, whether you like it or not. Even if you are not hungry, he will find something for you to eat. In the end, you will be happy that went in to try.
The price vs quality ratio is very good and just goes to show that you don’t need to spend a ton to have a great meal. From pasta to seafood dishes, there is something for everyone and the food is simple and downright delicious. At the end of the meal, have a glass of limoncello and you ll understand why this is one of the best restaurants in Amalfi.
Address: Vicolo Masaniello, 14, 84011 Amalfi
Hours: 12 PM- 4PM, 6 PM- Midnight Closed Tuesdays
Taverna Buonvicino
€€ | Courtyard seating | Away from Crowds
You would never guess it, but this charming restaurant is located not far from the main cathedral, tucked away in a little courtyard. For a romantic night out, this is definitely the place to go.
While the menu changes according to the season, you can always find spaghetti with anchovy oil and lemon ( An Amalfi treat). There are plenty of fresh fish options and on a side note, the recipes they use come from the cookbook that was used to cook for the Dukes of Naples back in the day. So go back in history and understand why this is one of the best restaurants in Amalfi.
Address: Largo Santa Maria Maggiore, 1, 84011 Amalfi
Hours: 12 PM- 2:30 PM, 6:30 PM- 10:30 PM Closed Mondays
Da Gemma
€€€ | Outdoor Seating | Seafood
For an excellent dining experience, I recommend Da Gemma. Make sure you book in advance in order to get a table outdoors which is definitely the way to go if possible. You will find old-school service with super attention to detail.
As for food, you should go with the fritto misto which is lightly battered seafood. The Caprese salad is exquisite here together with Ravioli filled with goat’s cheese and codfish.
Address: Via Fra Gerardo Sasso, 11, 84011 Amalfi
Hours: 12 PM- 3 PM, 7 PM- 10:30 PM Never Closed
Da Ciccio Cielo Mare E Terra
€€€€ | Seaview | Something for everyone
This restaurant is not in the center part of town and therefore requires a bit of a drive, but it is well worth it! They will usually offer a shuttle service to pick you up and drop you off if you are staying in the general Amalfi area so make sure you take advantage of that if you don’t have a car.
While the restaurant is not cheap, if you are going to splurge, this is probably where I would do it. They offer a tasting menu for 90€ excluding wine with varied dishes such as beef carpaccio, squid and potatoes, and fish soup. Enjoy a local wine from Amalfi and you will understand that without a doubt this is one of the best restaurants in Amalfi.
Address: Via Giovanni Augustariccio, 21, 84011 Amalfi
Hours: 12:30 PM- 3 PM, 7:30 PM- 10:30 PM Closed Tuesdays

Their specialty is seafood and their presentation is superb. I highly recommend that you go with the tasting menu which is 4 courses for 80€. You can add a 4 wine pairing menu for an additional 40€. Here Is Where to Stay in the Most Popular Italian Destinations
Rome, Florence, Venice, the Amalfi Coast, and Capri
Thanks for all the info, however my wife does not eat seafood, can you recommend a few places for us to get great meals other than seafood?
We will be in Amalfi town the last week of September, I think our tour has us staying at Hotel Excelsior for two nights.
No problem! Several of the restaurants on our list serve other dishes without seafood too. Try Ristorante L’Abside for ravioli or even a beef filet. And pizza is always a solid choice at Pizzeria Donna Stella and La Capannina.
