Everything to Know About the Papal General Audience

If you find yourself in Rome on a Wednesday, you absolutely can’t miss the Papal General Audience! This extraordinary event offers a unique opportunity for pilgrims and visitors to engage with the Pope as he addresses and interacts with the public. It’s a must-see event where you get to experience the Holy Father’s presence up close. Here’s the lowdown:

Time and Place

Every Wednesday at 9:00 AM.

  • Spring, Summer, and Autumn: Usually held in St. Peter’s Square to accommodate large crowds. There’s a seating area near the front for those with tickets, but it’s still first come, first served.
  • Winter: Moved indoors to the Hall of Pope Paul VI, located to the left of St. Peter’s Basilica behind the Colonnade.

Tickets

  • Tickets are required for the General Audience
  • You can request tickets for the Papal Audience, on the Vatican’s online portal. Remember, tickets to Papal events are always free.
  • Tickets can be collected at the Bronze Door (located under the right-hand colonnade in St. Peter’s Square). They must be picked up the day before the event between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

Pro Tip: Rome can be extremely hot in the summer (June, July, August). Be sure to bring hats, sunscreen, and water!

How to Plan Your Sunday Angelus Blessing Visit
