There is a rugged beauty in this small, mountainous country that is only matched by the fierce pride of its people. The country is small and you can easily fly over it, but if you have a few days and happen to be in the Caucasus Region, then I highly recommend visiting for a few days.

Where to Stay in Yerevan, Armenia
I decided to travel to Yerevan after having been to Baku. That is a bit ironic, considering they are currently at war with each other, but having travelled to the Caucuas mountains once, I wanted to return to see more.
My top recommendations after visiting Yerevan include:
- Enjoy the nightlife
- Eat as much as possible at local restaurants
- Try the apricots in the summer- they are the juiciest apricots you will ever have
- Get out of the city at least one day to visit Mt. Ararat (or at least as close as you can get)
Yerevan is a safe city to walk around even after a night out. You will find travellers from all over, but even in the main center area, the bars, restaurants and cafes are full of locals enjoying a day or night out. There are multiple roof-top bars and nice restaurants for every budget.
If you get a chance to be in Yerevan for the Vardavar festival, I highly recommend it. It’s basically a huge party throughout the city where everyone sprays water on each other. While that might not sound appealing, the festive spirit in the city is not to be missed. If you can’t make it for that festival, you will still have a great time.
I recommend that you stay in the city for 3 nights / 4 days to get a really good feel for the city. This also allows you to get out of the city for one day to see a bit of the countryside. There are three main districts that you should choose from when choosing a hotel in the city. Each of them offers something a bit different. But, regardless of which you choose, you’ll be in the best position to enjoy the city:
- Kentron ( Downtown Yerevan)
- Arabkir
- Erebuni
Keep reading all the way at the bottom for tips on how to get to the city and navigating around.

How to Get to Yerevan
The main airport to fly into Yerevan is called Zvartnots International Airport. Also it’s only about 7 miles from the city center, so the ride is quite quick to about anywhere you choose to stay.
While many flights are coming in from Russia, there are also multiple flights coming in from around Europe. Accordingly, when I went last year, we flew directly from Rome with Wizz Air.
Basically, once you are in town, the majority of places are walkable, as the real center is quite small. If your legs get tired, then you can always find taxis ready to take you and Uber is also an option for you. But in small city centers like this, I always recommend walking as much as possible so that you get a good feel for city and its vibe.
