Itinerary
Your tour begins outside the Galileo Museum
Meet your guide just outside the museum entrance in Piazza dei Giudici, a short walk from the Arno River. Check in with your guide and a small group of fellow travelers, then step inside Palazzo Castellani together.
Head inside with timed-entry
Skip the ticket lines and head straight into the historic Medici collection on the first floor. Your guide sets the stage for three centuries of scientific discovery housed in this riverside Renaissance palazzo.
Stand beside Galileo's original instruments
Marvel at Antonio Santucci's colossal 1593 armillary sphere before facing the only two surviving telescopes Galileo used to spot Jupiter's moons. Display cases nearby hold his original lenses and mummified finger.
Continue into the Lorraine Collection
Head upstairs to the eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Lorraine rooms, packed with ornate microscopes, early thermometers, vacuum pumps, and dramatic electrostatic machines once used in royal physics demonstrations.
Linger in the museum at your own pace
After the guided portion ends, you're free to stay inside as long as you like. Revisit your favorite rooms, try the interactive displays, or browse the bookshop for souvenirs tied to the history of science.
