Your tour begins at the Colosseum
Meet your guide and semi-private group near the base of Rome’s 2,000-year-old amphitheater. Your guide introduces the massive stone structure and the nearby Arch of Constantine. Learn how emperors used these grand monuments to show off their power to the people of Rome.
Enter the Colosseum through Gladiators Gate
Next, follow your guide through a mandatory security check before passing through the side entrance of the Colosseum, once used by the gladiators themselves. Then, step onto the exclusive arena floor, the stage level of the Colosseum. Standing on the wooden floor, look up at the rows of seats and imagine the roar of 50,000 spectators watching the games.
Explore the upper tiers
Then, your guide leads you to the higher levels of the amphitheater for the audience perspective and an overhead view of the maze of underground chambers. From these tiers, learn how different social classes were seated in ancient Rome and where the most important leaders sat to watch.
Visit the Roman Forum
Follow your guide into the valley that served as the busy center of the ancient city. Walk past the remains of the Senate House and the Temple of the Vestal Virgins while hearing stories about the daily lives and politics of ancient Roman citizens.

Good to know:
Dress Code: Comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes are recommended, as you’ll be walking on uneven terrain.
Accessibility: Due to uneven terrain and historic surfaces, this tour isn’t suitable for wheelchairs or strollers. A soft baby carrier is recommended, and if you expect to need elevator access at the Colosseum, please let us know in advance so your guide can prepare. You may also like to consider joining our Private Colosseum Tour.
ID Requirement: A valid government-issued ID is required to enter the Colosseum. The name on your ticket must match your ID or entry may be denied.
Tour Changes: Depending on the assigned entry time for the Colosseum, your tour might enter the Roman Forum first and end in the Colosseum. It is also possible this tour might run in reverse. Either way, you’ll enjoy the full experience with your guide.
Children: All visitors, regardless of age, need a ticket for the Colosseum. Each child’s ticket must match their government-issued ID. Passports are recommended.
Disability certification: Visitors with valid disability certification are eligible for a reduced €2 entry ticket to the Colosseum, which also applies to one companion. Contact us after booking to arrange this. This applies to the ticket cost only, not the tour price.
Lines: This tour includes group access to the Colosseum, allowing you to skip the main lines for individual visitors. You’ll still pass through a security check before entering, which may involve a short wait.
Closures: Sometimes the Colosseum closes access to the more restricted areas with little notice. This usually happens in cases of heavy rainfall or an emergency repair. If this happens, we will visit other areas of the Colosseum, and the tour will continue with the same duration.
Bag Policy: For quicker entry, please leave large backpacks and wheeled bags at your accommodation as they aren’t permitted inside the Colosseum. All bags will be screened at security.
Check-in: Please arrive 15 minutes early so your group can enter right on time and make the most of your visit.

I had no idea what the Palatine Hill was all about, but it was probably one of the most moving experiences I had while in Rome. The Roman forum was also something you must see and try to wrap your head around. It’s truly stunning. The Colosseum was a great stop going on the floor was awesome again the history is just so deep that you probably need two days. Our tour guy did a great job took us to all the spots that we needed to go to. Everything went seamless and there was lots of knowledge shared. If you have a few hours and you want to walk and get your steps and do this. A lot of up and down and it’s hot and I did about 15,000 steps but you will have fun,

This was our favorite tour in Rome, and Paulina, our tour guide was absolutely amazing! It was easy to communicate with the Carpe Diem team too! Paulina was enthusiastic and really knew all the history behind the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and Roman Forum. She was very inclusive, patient, and understanding of her guests with the summer heat and stopped frequently in the shade and for us to fill up our water bottles. On top of that she was happy to take pictures of all of us for an elevated experience. At the end, she sent us recommendations on the book she used during our tour and restaurants in the area. If I had the opportunity to pick, I would request her every time! She really made our experience 10,000/10!

What an amazing tour! Our guide was very clear and organized the entire time. I overheard some of the other guides while walking, and it validated that we had the best one. It was truly a small group which we loved and was so worth it after seeing so many large groups out there of people not engaged in what the guide was saying. We had time to stop and take photos and ask questions too.
