Itinerary
Express Colosseum Tour
Climb to upper levels with an expert, storytelling guide
Meet your guide outside the Colosseum
Your tour begins near the Colosseo metro stop, where your guide greets you beneath the towering stone arches of Rome's most famous monument.
Enter the Colosseum
Step through the ancient archway and into 2,000 years of history. Your guide fits you with headsets so you can hear every story clearly, even as crowds gather around this legendary amphitheater.
Explore the 1st level of the Colosseum
Walk the same corridors where Roman citizens once poured in for brutal entertainment. Your guide explains how the arena floor was built, where wild animals were kept below, and how the retractable awning shaded 50,000 spectators on game days.
Stand on the 2nd level overlooking the arena
Climb to the tier where Rome's wealthier classes sat and look down on the enormous arena floor. From this vantage point, you can imagine gladiators battling below, the roar of the crowd, and the emperor's thumb deciding life or death.
Learn about gladiatorial combat and naval battles
Hear the gritty details of gladiator training, the different fighter classes, and even the mock sea battles that flooded the arena floor. Your guide shares surprising facts about how these spectacles were organized and what happened behind the scenes.
Your tour finishes at the Colosseum exit
After an hour of expert storytelling, your guided portion wraps up right outside the Colosseum. From here, your ticket grants you access to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill whenever you're ready to continue exploring.

When we looked back at highlights of our Rome trip, we included not “the Colosseum,” but specifically “the Colosseum with Jo.” She took an incredible experience to the next level, with her generosity of knowledge, great sense of humor, and fearless navigation through the late summer crowds. I do wish I had booked a tour that included a guide for the Roman Forum, because I would have appreciated insight there - but I wouldn’t have wanted to miss getting Jo as our guide, either. Thank you so much!

Our guide Monika was very funny and informative and we had a great time seeing the colosseum for the first time! She was patient and made sure everyone could get a picture and see the material she had for viewing during the tour! She gave us helpful hints outside of the colosseum and made our first “The Tour Guy” experience very positive! We will definitely book with “The Tour Guy” again because of her!

Great tour with great and interesting stories during the tour. Our guide Davide was engaging and told us interesting stories about the Colosseum that let us visualize how this place would be like back in the day. Had a great time learning about the Colosseum and visiting the other adjacent historic locations.
