Itinerary
Your tour begins at your city center hotel
Meet your guide right at your accommodation; be sure to let us know in advance where you’re staying! After hopping in and getting settled, have a quick chat with your guide about the plan for the journey ahead and what you’re most eager to see.
Marvel at the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill
Your first stop is Via dei Fori Imperiali, where three of Rome's greatest ancient ruins line up side by side. Picture 50,000 roaring spectators here, then imagine emperors once ruling from the hill above.
Soak in the view from Giardino degli Aranci
Continue up Aventine Hill to an orange grove terrace with a postcard view straight across the rooftops to St. Peter's dome. Rolling back down, you'll pass the Circus Maximus, once Rome's chariot-racing arena.
Test your honesty at the Mouth of Truth
Slip your hand into the Bocca della Verità, the ancient marble face legend says snaps shut on liars. A short stroll brings you to Piazza Venezia, home to the towering white Altare della Patria monument.
Toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain
Step out just steps from the Trevi Fountain, where the walking portion of your afternoon begins. Salvi's Baroque masterpiece fills the piazza, with Oceanus riding his shell chariot at its dramatic center.
Pause at Sant'Ignazio and the Pantheon
Duck into Sant'Ignazio and tilt your head back at Pozzo's painted ceiling, a flat disc your eyes read as a soaring dome. Minutes later, the Pantheon appears, still crowned by its original ancient roof. Pause to take in this masterpiece from the outside.
Circle Bernini's fountain in Piazza Navona
Wander into the lively Piazza Navona, laid out right on the footprint of an old Roman stadium. Loop around Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers before your guide meets you again at the far end of the square.
Gaze at St. Peter's Square and Basilica
Back in the van, Castel Sant'Angelo drifts past your window, Hadrian's tomb turned papal fortress. Then enjoy an unhurried pause in St. Peter's Square, framed by Bernini's colonnade and that famous dome.
Your tour ends where you first began
You'll pull back up to the very same door where your day started, three relaxed hours after setting off. Ask your guide for a dinner tip nearby, or head back out for a longer look at your favorite stop.
