Meet your guide on Via dei SS. Quattro
Meet your guide on Via dei SS. Quattro, just steps from the Colosseum. Get fitted with your e-bike and helmet, go over a quick safety briefing, and then pedal out of Rome’s historic center.
Ride through Porta San Sebastiano onto the Appian Way
Follow your guide through local streets to Porta San Sebastiano, one of the best-preserved gates in Rome’s ancient Aurelian Walls. Pass beneath its arches, leave the city traffic behind, and glide onto the stone-paved roads of the Appian Way.
Cycle the Appian Way and countryside landmarks
Settle into a comfortable pace along the Appian Way as fields, cypress trees, and crumbling ruins line the road. Your guide points out ancient villas, mausoleums, and milestones, explaining how this strategic route once carried armies, merchants, and pilgrims in and out of Rome.
Explore Ninfeo di Egeria and Tomb of Cecilia Metella
Ride to a leafy stretch of the Appian Way where the ruins of the Ninfeo di Egeria sit beside a natural spring. Then pause at the round Tomb of Cecilia Metella, a towering stone mausoleum, while your guide explains who she was and why this monument still dominates the ancient road.
Descend into the Catacombs of Saint Callixtus
Park your bikes and follow your guide down into the Catacombs of Saint Callixtus, one of Rome’s largest underground burial sites. Walk through dim, narrow tunnels lined with tombs and frescoes while you hear how early Christians worshipped and buried their dead beneath the Appian Way.
Lunch beneath the aqueducts in Parco degli Acquedotti
Ride into Parco degli Acquedotti, where towering stone arches cross open fields and paths. Take a break for a tipycal italian lunch, enjoying local flavors while your guide explains how these ancient aqueducts once carried water into everyday life in Rome.
Your tour finishes at Via dei SS. Quattro
Follow your guide back toward the city, passing sights like Parco della Caffarella and the Baths of Caracalla as the Colosseum comes into view again. The ride ends where it began on Via dei SS. Quattro.

Bike Requirements: This tour requires moderate physical fitness. All adult participants must be confident riding a bike. The e-bikes have a maximum carrying capacity of 120 kg (265 pounds).
Dress Code: Casual and athletic clothing is highly recommended for cycling. Extra layers may be needed depending on the weather.
Dietary Needs: If you have food allergies or other dietary requirements, please contact us in advance. We will do our best to accommodate you.
Accessibility: This is an active cycling tour. It is not suitable for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility.
Weather Advisory: The cycling tour runs rain or shine. Ponchos will be provided in case of rain. If the weather is extremely bad and the tour cannot run, you will be informed immediately and offered rescheduling or a full refund.
Check-in: Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in at the meeting point so the group can depart on time.

My husband and I really enjoyed biking the Appian Way and small trails through the area. Relaxing to be away from Rome's noise and crowds. Our guide, Mara (?) was charming and fun. She was attentive to our group and the pace was perfect. The pasta lunch was delicious too!

This was an excellent way to spend a morning and early afternoon in Rome. The ride was scenic with a stop at the catacombs and a lunch stop. Overall, a great way to see a part of Rome you wouldn't normally see. Jeff was an excellent guide--he made the ride fun and informative. The bikes were easy to ride. Highly recommend Jeff and Roma Star Bike.

We had a great time on this tour. We did it the day we arrived in Rome, it was good to get outside and be moving. I don't ride much, it was very bumpy on the stones and a bit scary on the trails, but we managed and did it safely. The tour guide rode fairly fast, so be prepared for that. You go over very rough terrain. It was just our family with the tour guide which was very nice. It was a great way to see all these things. The Catacombs tour was a bit long, but the surrounding area was very beautiful.

First of all, the bike ride in general was very informative. The catacombs and aqueducts were very cool. The guides were knowledgeable about all material covered. As far as the bike ride itself: it goes over some pretty rough terrain. Also, the bikes are pedal-assist bikes. In other worths not like the other type of e-bike where you can just speed up like a motorcycle. If you have any physical issues, be sure to take those into consideration before booking this tour. I had neck surgery last year, and it put a real strain on my neck having to look up (or ahead) all the time. Bottom line: the tour itself was great, but the biking portion is very akin to mountain biking (at times), and not just a leisurely ride. So keep this in mind if you decide to book this activity.

Our tour was with Alex at Roma Star Bike. He was excellent at keeping our group together while navigating Rome traffic. Alex is a terrific guide and storyteller, and is very invested in sharing history. Very knowledgeable and easygoing. Exceeded our expectations - so much more than a bike ride.

Great day getting out of the city, enjoying some exercise, and seeing some amazing historical sites. Mara, our guide for the day, made it even better. She gave every person in the group personal attention, and constantly monitored our safety, comfort, and made sure we were all having fun and learning the history of everything we saw including the arch into the city, the building and history of the Appian Way, the aqueduct, and many sites in between. We took quite a few breaks with access to the water and bathrooms. The crypt tour was also stellar. Highly recommend this tour AND Mara is the BEST.

This was the best tour we have ever taken in all our years of travel. Alex was an incredible guide, the perfect combination of knowledgeable, energetic, funny and kind. He has such a passion for Rome and it is contagious! The bikes were in perfect condition and easy to ride. We signed up for a semi-private tour which took us to the Catacombs, The Appian Way and the Aqueduct Park, learning through Alex's storytelling throughout the 5 hour ride. Navigating the city traffic and a variety of different terrains is best saved for those who are comfortable riding a bike. If that is you..take this tour, you'll be so glad you did!
