We took this private tour of the Catacombs and the Capuchin Crypts as part of our continued set of tours to really understand the history of Rome. Our guide Federica was exactly what we needed. She really is able to tie together the history and the modern context to give you a full picture of Roman life. She was a really engaging guide and made our tour amazing.

This was a great experience! Federica was super knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The catacombs and the ossuary were both fascinating. We learned a lot, had fun, and were able to see these sites easily in one afternoon.

Amanda was fabulous! Her knowledge of the crypts and their history was amazing. We learned so much from her on this tour. Our only concern was she was not able to go down into the crypts with us. They had us in a group of 25 with a guide who had a very heavy accent. He was difficult to understand and he moved us through the crypts at a quick pace, leaving little time to see or learn much about them. Thank goodness for Amanda! She explained everything that we were shown in the crypts, once we joined her again, to give us a clear understanding. Fascinating tour. Highly recommend if there were less crowded underground crypts to visit with Amanda.
Rome Underground Tour, Catacombs & Mithraeum
The tour, led by Cristiana Ventura, takes in the Basilica of San Clemente, the Catacombs of Domatilla a short distance outside the city and the Appian Way and Aurelian Walls. Christina was very knowledgeable about the sights and the history of Rome. We were walking through time as we toured the Basilica as the site has 4 layers of buildings starting from 100 BC. Each layer has ben excavated. In the catacombs, she provided insight to the lives of the early Christians who lived there. I recommend this tour as 1) our guide was very knowledgeable (allowing for an appreciation of the life and times of the people) and 2) the group was small (allowing time for discussion and questions).
I highly recommend the tour. The Basilica, because of the history of the location) is one of the hidden secrets for Rome.
San Clemente
They call San Clemente the " Lasagna church". We loved every second of it. Our favorite part of the tour
Great Private Tour
We did 3 private tours with The Roman Guy. This one was my favorite bc it was so off the beaten path. San Clemente is super cool. Catacombs are great too and way out of town. Walking on Appian way was the best for me though. Just thinking that Caesar walked on those same roads made is a great experience. Guide spoke great english and I think our driver was born behind the wheel of a car. He found a way around traffic like it was no problem.
