Meet your guide on the Appian Way
Your tour begins at a local golf cart rental point on via Appia Antica, just outside Rome's bustling center. After greeting your guide and hopping into a comfortable golf cart, you'll set off along the ancient Appian Way, where the city's chaos quickly gives way to peaceful countryside dotted with ruins and history.
Domine Quo Vadis Church
First, visit the modest Domine Quo Vadis Church, where legend says Saint Peter met the risen Christ while fleeing persecution. Inside, you'll see a stone bearing what are said to be Christ's footprints, a relic that has drawn pilgrims for centuries and marks the moment Peter chose to return to Rome.
Circus of Emperor Maxentius
Next, pull up to the sprawling remains of Emperor Maxentius's 4th-century complex. Though the massive circus was never fully used, its scale still impresses today. Your guide explains how this ambitious project reflected the emperor's desire for grandeur before his defeat at the Battle of Milvian Bridge.
Tomb of Metella
Then, stop at the towering Tomb of Metella, a circular mausoleum built for a woman from one of Rome's most powerful families. Learn how this monument became a medieval fortress and why it remains one of the Appian Way's most recognizable landmarks.
Quintili's Villa
Continue to the ruins of Quintili's Villa, once a sprawling estate with luxurious baths and manicured grounds. Hear the dramatic story of the Quintili brothers, whose wealth caught Emperor Commodus's attention and led to their tragic downfall—a cautionary tale of Roman excess and envy.
San Callisto or San Sebastian Catacombs
Your final stop takes you underground into the San Callisto or San Sebastian Catacombs, carved into the earth in the 2nd century. Descend into dimly lit tunnels lined with ancient tombs, where your guide reveals the burial customs and beliefs of early Christian and Jewish communities who once hid their faith here.
Your tour finishes on the Appian Way
After exploring the catacombs, you'll complete any remaining stops before returning to the starting point on via Appia Antica. Ask your guide for restaurant recommendations or tips on other hidden gems—they know all the best spots to continue your Roman adventure.

Dress Code: Comfortable and athletic clothing is recommended. Extra layers are advised as the temperature inside the Catacombs is approximately 61°F.
Accessibility: The Catacombs are not wheelchair accessible due to architectural barriers and are only reachable by descending 50 irregular steps. If you have any doubts about your mobility, please contact us beforehand.
Weather Advisory: The tour runs rain or shine. If the weather is extremely bad and the tour cannot proceed, you will be notified as soon as possible.
Please Note: The visit is to either the San Callisto or San Sebastian Catacombs, depending on accessibility on the day of the tour. To see as much of the Appian Way as possible, we will not be stopping at every site; many landmarks will be admired from the golf cart.
Check-in: Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in at the meeting point so the group can enter sites on time.

This was a great intimate style tour. Our guide Fedrick was so full of knowledge! Totally recommend this tour. Our only disappointment was that you can not take pictures inside the catacombs but that is not this tour companies fault, that is Vatican rules. Its just such an amazing experience you want to capture it. Regardless, we highly recommend this tour.
