Itinerary

Your experience begins at Piazza Barberini or at the Capuchin Church entrance

Your experience begins at Piazza Barberini, in front of the Fontana del Tritone, where you can meet our Welcome Staff and exchange your voucher for your Capuchin Crypt entry ticket. Prefer to skip the stop? You’ll also receive your tickets by email in advance, allowing you to head straight to the entrance and explore at your own pace.

Enter the Capuchin church and museum spaces

With your ticket scanned an an audio guide in-hand, step into the quiet interior of the Capuchin complex. Learn about the Capuchin order, their centuries of life in Rome, and why these underground chapels were created.

Walk through the first crypt chapels with an audio guide

Continue your exploration into the first bone-decorated chapels, where skulls and vertebrae form arches, patterns, and simple symbols. As you move along the narrow corridor, learn how these arrangements connect to themes of faith, humility, and mortality.

Pause in the most intricate bone chapel

Further inside, you reach one of the most elaborate spaces, where chandeliers, altars, and wall designs are all shaped from Capuchin friars’ bones. Take your time to notice the details, reflect on the lives behind these remains, and absorb the unusual stillness of the crypt.

Your self-guided visit finishes as you exit the crypts

After roughly an hour underground, follow the route back toward the exit of the Capuchin Crypts. Step out into the streets of Rome with a vivid memory of this stark site that few visitors forget.
