Why is the Sagrada Familia not finished?

Since it began construction in 1882, the church has been flanked by scaffolding. This is because the church relies exclusively on donations for funding. Construction was also impacted by the death of Gaudí in 1926, the Spanish Civil War, and the lack of certain materials during the 20th century. 

The predicted completion date is 2026.

Can I attend mass at the Sagrada Familia?

Mass is still held every Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Admission is free, but space is limited. Get there early if you want to be sure to get a spot. 

What should I wear to visit the Sagrada Familia?

Out of respect for the church, there is a dress code to follow. If you dress inappropriately, you may be denied entry. 

• No bare shoulders

• Pants and skirts must go past the knee

• No low-cut neck lines or see-through clothing 

What can I bring into the Sagrada Familia?

Small purses are allowed in the church, but backpacks and luggage are not allowed. There is temporary paid storage you can place your items in before you enter. Items must be taken upon leaving the church.

Food and drink are also not allowed.
