The Vatican is to say the least, overwhelming! The best way to see it the first time is to have guide, but not just any guide. Our guide was extremely well versed in the details of the Vatican and ALL the history it enshrines. We were very impressed and highly recommend THE TOUR GUY. Why a guide…The short cuts, the added knowledge, the ability to ask questions, historical insight including the most recent changes, etc. There is no way to see it all in a day, or at least thoughtfully, but knowing the highlights we can come back on our own to spend more time looking and absorbing more visually all the great information shared by our guide.

Nice tour structure to see all the main attractions. Could have done most of it on self guided but nice to have ability to skip some lines. Guide was hard to understand in English.
A Remarkable Return After 20+ Years!

This semi-private Vatican tour was absolutely outstanding—both for me, returning after more than two decades, and for my husband, experiencing it for the first time. Seeing it again through his eyes made the day even more special. The smaller group size created a relaxed, almost intimate atmosphere that allowed us to truly appreciate the art and history without feeling lost in the crowd.
Visiting during the low season was a wonderful choice—fewer people meant we could stay a little longer in each gallery, take in the details, and enjoy a clear view of some of the most breathtaking works ever created. Our guide, Ele, brought everything to life with deep knowledge and contagious enthusiasm, sharing stories and insights that gave fresh meaning to places I thought I already knew.
From the magnificent Raphael Rooms to standing beneath Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel ceiling, every moment felt both familiar and newly awe-inspiring. The visit concluded at St. Peter’s Basilica, where we had the opportunity to observe a service and take our time viewing all of the amazing works. My only regret was that the Pietà was not visible because the Holy Door had been sealed earlier this month. However, for those who were tall, if you stood far enough back, you could still snap a photo of it, which is what we settled for.
If you’re considering a Vatican tour, this semi-private experience is truly worth it—especially in the quieter season. It’s perfectly paced, beautifully narrated, and deeply memorable for both first-time visitors and returning travelers alike.

We were lucky to have Giada as our Vatican guide for this semi-private tour in January. We were part of a very small group which allowed a bit more time to linger in each space and soak in the art. Giada is vastly knowledgeable of the Vatican and its art and enthusiasticly shared it with us.
Semi Private tour worth every penny

Our tour guide Kate was amazing, have a great background on the Vatican and Sistine Chapel at the beginning of the tour and was very helpful to help us navigate the Vatican museum, the Sistine Chapel and the Basillica. The amount of knowledge that Kate presented in our 3.5 hours with her was astounding.
Excellent experience

Tour was good. She set limits on the time in certain areas, thank goodness. The guide said it wasn't real crowded on the day we did the tour. Can't imagine there being more people pushed in to the Chapel and Basilica. It was soooo crowded. Beware, if you don't like crowded spaces and being pushed around, this is NOT for you, especially in the heat of the summer.

Very positive experience again with the Tour Guy, this time with Tatiana as our guide. Being an qualified historian, she gave us an excellent look into the Vatican, it operations and select artworks - there is simply too much to see in 1 day, let alone 3 hours.
Zipping by the long lines for entry etc made it also very easy. Highly recommend
