Your tour begins at Largo Del Colonnato
Meet your guide just outside the massive stone columns on the right side of St. Peter’s Square. Your private group will gather by the fountain to prepare for an early morning entry into the world’s largest church before the daytime crowds arrive.
Climb St. Peter's dome for panoramic views
Ride the elevator to the lower roof terrace to view the colorful interior mosaics up close. Then, for those who desire to, climb the final 320 narrow stone steps to the very summit of the dome for sweeping vistas across the entire historic center of Rome.
Explore the masterworks of St. Peter's Basilica
Descend back into the main sanctuary to view the incredible wealth of Renaissance and Baroque art. Your guide will walk you past Michelangelo’s moving Pietà sculpture and Bernini’s towering bronze Baldacchino canopy, which marks the ancient tomb of Saint Peter himself.
Use timed entry tickets at the Vatican Museums
After exiting St. Peter’s Basilica, walk past the general admission lines using priority entrance tickets.Step into the grand hallways, where your guide will introduce you to centuries of classical art, historic artifacts, and architectural wonders.
Walk the Galleries of Maps and Tapestries

Good to know:
Dress Code: As the Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel are deeply religious sites, everyone must cover their knees, shoulders, and toes. Guests who do not meet the dress code may be refused entry by security officials. No hats or flip flops please.
Accessibility: As this is a private tour, the itinerary can be accommodated to be wheelchair or mobility accessible. Please reach out to us to make the proper arrangements. A foldable umbrella stroller can be utilized in the Vatican Museums, but cannot be used in St. Peter's Basilica. A soft baby carrier is recommended.
Elevator Access: The final portion of the dome climb (320 steps) must be done by stairs, even with elevator access to the first level.
Tour Changes: The Basilica is closed on Wednesday mornings due to the Papal Audience. During state visits or special religious events, parts of the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica may be closed unexpectedly and without much notice, in which case we will reach out to assist you in rescheduling.
Lines: This tour grants you group access to the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica. While you'll bypass the long line for independent visitors, there may still be a wait to get through security.
Please Note: The Sistine Chapel is a place of worship, so visitors are not allowed to speak inside the chapel. Your guide will explain what you'll see in advance.
Check-in: Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in at the meeting point so the group can enter sites on time.

Best tour we’ve ever booked. Enza, our guide, was knowledgable, personable, and encouraged any and all questions. Itinerary was perfect, beginning with the Dome climb and moving into St. Peter’s and finally the Sistine Chapel. After the tour, on our way out, Enza explained an office we were walking by was where people picked up their Papal audience tickets. We asked how to get tickets, assuming it was only available online, and had three tickets to see the Pope the next day before we left. Would highly recommend.

Highly recommend using The Tour Guy for the Vatican experience, we saw so much more than just wandering around and the history was fascinating, Raffy? our tour guide was friendly and very well informed, she considered our group which ran from age 6 to 75 and she was still able to show us the museums, dome climb, basilica and Sistine Chapel, we even got a treat to walk through the hall of Cardinals. I highly praise this company and will look for their tours whenever we travel.
