Itinerary
Your tour begins near Caffé Vaticano
Your tour begins at the top of the grand staircase on Viale Vaticano, where your personal guide awaits you. Use your timed entry tickets to skip the general admissions line and step straight into security. This custom-tailored experience places your curiosities and interests first from the moment you meet your guide.
Step through the Pinecone Courtyard
Step into the Pinecone Courtyard to admire its open-air views and the massive Roman bronze pinecone. This vast courtyard serves as your introduction to the sheer scale of the papal state. Your expert guide charts the path ahead, adapting to your personal interests and setting an unhurried pace.
Inspect the Pio-Clementino Museum sculptures
Head into the world-renowned classical art collection, the Pio-Clementino Museum. Listen as your guide points out the exact anatomical details on the legendary Belvedere Torso and Laocoön and His Sons, showing you precisely how these relics directly inspired Michelangelo. Examine every marble curve up close with zero rush.
Visit the Pinacoteca and Carriage Pavilion
Then head into the often-overlooked Vatican Art Gallery to view masterworks by Caravaggio and Leonardo da Vinci. Next, explore the unique Carriage Pavilion to see historic ceremonial carriages alongside modern, vintage Popemobiles. This comprehensive detour gives you an intimate look at papal history that most miss.
Walk the three historic galleries
Stroll through the spectacular Gallery of the Candelabra, Gallery of the Tapestries, and the golden Gallery of Maps. Your guide breaks down the complex symbols in the Flemish tapestries and reveals the optical illusions hidden in the 400-year-old maps. This detailed breakdown ensures you understand the deep political messages woven into the walls.
Study the Raphael rooms & Borgia apartments
Enter the private apartments of Pope Julius II to admire the vibrant frescoes painted by Raphael. Your private guide dissects the School of Athens masterpiece, highlighting how the artist slyly painted his own face into the scene. In the Borgia apartments, you will admire the vibrant frescoes by Pinturicchio, which were hidden behind black crepe for centuries.
Stand inside the Sistine Chapel
Then experience the unparalleled majesty of Michelangelo's ceiling frescoes and the striking Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel. Because this is a private tour, you take your time sitting along the chapel walls to absorb every theological detail in total peace. Your guide prepares you with the intricate history beforehand so you can enjoy the quiet room completely.
Conclude inside St. Peter's Basilica
Your tour finishes at St. Peter's Basilica. Bypass the main church lines via the Scala Reiga, a restricted corridor, arriving directly inside the massive nave to marvel at Bernini's Baldacchino and Michelangelo's Pietà. Your guide provides a detailed look at the architecture before leaving you to continue exploring independently.

Good to know:
Dress Code: As the Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel are deeply religious sites, everyone must cover their knees, shoulders, and toes. Guests who do not meet the dress code may be refused entry by security officials. No hats or flip flops please.
Accessibility: The standard route involves stairs, including the Scala Regia connecting the chapel to the basilica, which makes it unsuitable for wheelchairs. However, because this is a private experience, we can adjust the path to enter the basilica via St. Peter's Square instead. Please reach out in advance to arrange these mobility modifications.
Tour Changes: St. Peter’s Basilica is closed on Wednesday mornings until 1:30pm, due to the Papal Audience. Tours during this time will not include basilica entry. Tours during special events may also experience a closure of St. Peter's Basilica.
Bag Policy: Camera tripods and large backpacks are not allowed in the museums, so please leave them at your hotel.
Please Note: Tours starting after 3:30pm are not guaranteed entry into St. Peter’s Basilica. The Sistine Chapel is a place of worship, so visitors are not allowed to speak inside the chapel. Your guide will explain what you'll see in advance.
Check-in: Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in at the meeting point so the group can enter sites on time.
