Meet Your Guide in Piazza della Scala

Your day begins in Piazza della Scala, the square that connects the La Scala Theatre to one of the world's most famous shopping malls, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. If you are walking from the Duomo, you can walk through the opulent wonder of the Galleria as a preview for the stunning architecture you will see in La Scala.

Your local guide will be waiting front of the La Scala Theatre Museum, located on Largo Antonio Ghiringhelli.

Head through the Opera House

Once united with your guide and small group, head into the Teatro della Scala. As you enter the halls your eyes will reach the sparkle of the great glass chandeliers. Take in the grandeur as thousands have while heading to the evening's show.

As you enter the Theatre itself, your guide will describe who sits where in the 2,000 seat room. Hear incredible stories of the notorious "loggione" who passionately watch from the seats high above the luxury boxes. Similar to rabid sports fans, these attendees are known to show their pleasure or displeasure towards the show. In some cases, being booed off the stage has led to the end of careers and live changes to the cast.

In many cases, you may see a live rehearsal of the evening's show. If you are inspired to take in the show later in the night, be sure to ask your guide the best way to secure tickets in case it has not yet sold out.

Visit the Sets and Costumes in the La Scala Museum

Next, head to the La Scala Museum to see close up examples of the stories and sites you saw in the theatre. Observe busts of the world's great composers and singers who have graced the stage of La Scala.

Explore the sets and costumes that have been presenting operatic stories for centuries. See Franz Liszt's impressive piano that was used for his 19th century concerts that took Europe by storm. Learn stories of these great performers, many of whom would be forgotten to history without the work of La Scala's Museum.
