Your tour begins near Caffé Vaticano
Meet your expert guide near the top of the large staircase between TMark Hotel Vaticano and Caffé Vaticano. After a greeting, bypass the long general admissions lines and head directly through the security entrance.
Walk the Pio-Clementino Museum
Enter the Vatican Museums, then explore an elite collection of ancient Greek and Roman sculptures inside this historic space. Your guide shares the fascinating origins of the Apollo Belvedere and the Belvedere Torso. You’ll also view Nero's massive red marble bathtub.
Stroll the magnificent Vatican museum galleries
Then navigate the breathtaking Gallery of the Candelabra and the Gallery of the Tapestries with your guide. Marvel at the massive, 400-year-old maps stretching along the walls of the Gallery of Maps. Your guide points out hidden optical illusions.
Enter the Sobieski Room and Room of the Segnatura
Continue your tour to the Sobieski Room and the Room of the Segnatura. The Sobieski Room is known for its stunning canvas by Polish artist Jean Marejko, depicting the Polish victory over the Turks in 1683. Good to know:
Dress Code: As the Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel are deeply religious sites, everyone must cover their knees, shoulders, and toes. Guests who do not meet the dress code may be refused entry by security officials. No hats or flip flops please.
Accessibility: The standard route involves stairs, including the Scala Regia connecting the chapel to the basilica, which makes it unsuitable for wheelchairs. However, because this is a private experience, we can adjust the path to enter the basilica via St. Peter's Square instead. Please reach out in advance to arrange these mobility modifications.
Tour Changes: St. Peter’s Basilica is closed on Wednesday mornings until 1:30pm, due to the Papal Audience. Tours during this time will not include basilica entry. Tours during special events may also experience a closure of St. Peter's Basilica. Extra time will be spent inside the Pio-Clementino museum when this occurs.
Bag Policy: Camera tripods and large backpacks are not allowed in the museums, so please leave them at your hotel.
Please Note: Tours starting after 3:30pm are not guaranteed entry into St. Peter’s Basilica. The Sistine Chapel is a place of worship, so visitors are not allowed to speak inside the chapel. Your guide will explain what you'll see in advance.
Check-in: Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in at the meeting point so the group can enter sites on time.
