Your tour begins at Largo Del Colonnato
Meet your guide just outside the massive stone columns on the right side of St. Peter’s Square. Your private group will gather by the fountain to prepare for an early morning entry into the world’s largest church before the daytime crowds arrive.
Climb St. Peter's dome for panoramic views
Ride the elevator to the lower roof terrace to view the colorful interior mosaics up close. Then, for those who desire to, climb the final 320 narrow stone steps to the very summit of the dome for sweeping vistas across the entire historic center of Rome.
Explore the masterworks of St. Peter's Basilica
Descend back into the main sanctuary to view the incredible wealth of Renaissance and Baroque art. Your guide will walk you past Michelangelo’s moving Pietà sculpture and Bernini’s towering bronze Baldacchino canopy, which marks the ancient tomb of Saint Peter himself.
Use timed entry tickets at the Vatican Museums
After exiting St. Peter’s Basilica, walk past the general admission lines using priority entrance tickets.Step into the grand hallways, where your guide will introduce you to centuries of classical art, historic artifacts, and architectural wonders.
Walk the Galleries of Maps and Tapestries
Stroll through the stunning geographical gallery to admire the detailed 16th-century topographical maps of Italy painted along the walls. Then examine the massive Flemish tapestries hanging in the adjacent hall, woven by students of the painter Raphael.

Good to know:
Dress Code: As the Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel are deeply religious sites, everyone must cover their knees, shoulders, and toes. Guests who do not meet the dress code may be refused entry by security officials. No hats or flip flops please.
Accessibility: As this is a private tour, the itinerary can be accommodated to be wheelchair or mobility accessible. Please reach out to us to make the proper arrangements. A foldable umbrella stroller can be utilized in the Vatican Museums, but cannot be used in St. Peter's Basilica. A soft baby carrier is recommended.
Elevator Access: The final portion of the dome climb (320 steps) must be done by stairs, even with elevator access to the first level.
Tour Changes: The Basilica is closed on Wednesday mornings due to the Papal Audience. During state visits or special religious events, parts of the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica may be closed unexpectedly and without much notice, in which case we will reach out to assist you in rescheduling.
Lines: This tour grants you group access to the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica. While you'll bypass the long line for independent visitors, there may still be a wait to get through security.
Please Note: The Sistine Chapel is a place of worship, so visitors are not allowed to speak inside the chapel. Your guide will explain what you'll see in advance.
Check-in: Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in at the meeting point so the group can enter sites on time.

St Peter's Basilica needs to be seen to be believed. It is amazing! The dome climb was so fun, and walking inside the Basilica was absolutely incredible. I don't think one can appreciate the scale without being there. An early start was essential. Even at 7am there were already lines forming. For example, we had a 20 minute wait for the dome climb, despite arriving on site at 7:15am. It was no problem though, as the dome and basilica experience did not feel rushed at all. We had plenty of time and space to take it all in. Raffa, our knowledgeable guide, was available to answer all of our questions along the way. This is a long tour, so although we avoided the crowds for the dome climb and the basilica, by the time we got to the Vatican museum, the lines were around the corner. Yes, we skipped the line! But, the crowd in the museum was overwhelming. We went on a Saturday in April, so this was certainly a factor. You could not reasonably stop to admire any of the works, the foot traffic was just too congested. We mostly just kept shuffling straight through the museum. I would highly recommend the dome climb and the basilica. It's amazing! But temper your expectations for the museum, if it is a crowded day, or a weekend.

We had a wonderful experience touring the Vatican with Raffa as our guide. She was very knowledgeable, friendly and truly engaged our two teenagers. Our 13 year old said this tour and the Vatican was his favorite place we visited. Climbing the dome was also a highlight for them. Raffa was great, moving through the crowds with grace at an excellent pace.

My family loves to travel but because work and school schedules limit the time we are away, so we feel we have to make the most of every day. We have done several private tours from cities in the USA but also in several other countries. We have never been let down yet but Kate was the absolute best yet! Hands down, no better guide. She made learning the information interesting and was repetitive enough to help us remember and to tie all of the stories together. She guided us through the maze of people in a gentle manor and took time to answer our questions. Our tour was to be 5 hours and I think it went over but none of us noticed because we were enjoying it so much. I also noticed hour the security and employees of the Basilica and museum knew Kate and communicated well with her like she was a friend as well as other guides. To me that is also a sign that she is truly a nice, kind person!
