Good to know:
Dress Code: As the Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel are deeply religious sites, everyone must cover their knees, shoulders, and toes. Guests who do not meet the dress code may be refused entry by security officials. No hats or flip flops please.
Accessibility: The standard route involves stairs, including the Scala Regia connecting the chapel to the basilica, which makes it unsuitable for wheelchairs. However, because this is a private experience, we can adjust the path to enter the basilica via St. Peter's Square instead. Please reach out in advance to arrange these mobility modifications.
Tour Changes: St. Peter’s Basilica is closed on Wednesday mornings until 1:30pm, due to the Papal Audience. Tours during this time will not include basilica entry. Tours during special events may also experience a closure of St. Peter's Basilica.
Bag Policy: Camera tripods and large backpacks are not allowed in the museums, so please leave them at your hotel.
Please Note: Tours starting after 3:30pm are not guaranteed entry into St. Peter’s Basilica. The Sistine Chapel is a place of worship, so visitors are not allowed to speak inside the chapel. Your guide will explain what you'll see in advance.
Check-in: Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in at the meeting point so the group can enter sites on time.

We had a three-person tour, so it would have been easy for us to be overtaken in the larger crowds. Not with Elenora! She maneuvered our group through and around the larger crowds, making sure we had every opportunity to see the amazing works of art. Eleonora was a fantastic tour guide to have for our visit to the Vatican. We did a private 5 hour tour with her, that was pleasant and not rushed. We had a wonderful experience on the private Vatican tour a few weeks ago. Our guide Erturk was great! He was very knowledgable and patient with all my questions. I highly recommend the private tour if you are able to do it! The Vatican was extremely busy (as usual, especially for it being a Jubilee year) with LOTS of big groups. The guards were herding everyone through the rooms quickly, but since it was just the 2 of us & our guide, we were allowed to step out of the flow of traffic and take our time in the majority of the galleries. It was so great! There were some logistical issues because the day before, Prince Charles decided to visit the Vatican and pray in the Sistine Chapel that morning, so we were unable to go through the chapel & the shorter way to St. Peter’s. That caused some extra walking & shifting in our tour schedule that was no fault of of the tour company or our guide, but it was handled well. I highly recommend both The Roman Guy & Erturk for a great tour!!

We are an extended family— 4 parents, 6 kids aged 10,12,15,16,18,20. We were initially wary about a 5 hour tour because of the young kids but a few of us adults had a great interest due to the historical and/or religious significance. The private tour was well worth it. Eleonora was an engaging extremely knowledgeable, passionate guide who occasionally talked fast but knew her way around the museums/chapel/basillica, guards/other tour guides, and the culture. She was a “momma bear” and ensured we saw the best exhibits from the right perspective. The private tour was worth it— tour was customized to our needs and had the family intimacy that our trip deserved. She made sure we had responsible breaks so the kids could enjoy the fullest. Tiring day—truthfully the youngest and the 16 year old were disengaged by the end of the day, so maybe think really hard about kids joining.

The tour was amazing. The typical tour lasts 3 hours and this is 5. The extra 2 hours allowed for visiting much more, including the papal garage which almost nobody sees. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and guided us effortless around the Vatican.

We had an amazing tour by Eli. She was deeply knowledgeable about the Vatican its history and stunning art. It was part art history and part religious history lesson from an expert. What set Eli apart was her clear love of the Vatican and more so her care for sharing the amazing gifts of her “second home” to the world. She exceeded all expectations. Great day with Manuela! It was honestly like having a tour with a family member. Her knowledge was amazing and she did a great job taking our needs into consideration. The private tour costs more, but if you are able to, it is definitely worth it! She knew everywhere to go and since we had such a small group it allowed for flexibility maneuvering the heavy crowd. This was our first trip to Rome and our intention was for this tour to be the focal point of our time in the city and it did not disappoint. Shortly after meeting Jon we entered the line to go through security and his knowledge of the Vatican and Rome started there and didn’t let up the entire day. My wife and I aren’t “Art people” per se, but Jon’s perspective on pieces we saw really brought a whole new perspective to the experience. Also, the day we were there was crowded and we were able to navigate pretty easy due to his intimate knowledge of the buildings. If you’ve never been, it’s an amazing place and make a request for Jon if you can.
