Did you know that at one point in history, the glass blowers of Murano Island were not allowed to leave out of fear of them giving away valuable trade secrets? It can be as challenging today to see these artists at work as it was for them to leave centuries ago.  We're experts in Italy and have many options, including different start times that meet your travel needs.  Most tours also include islands like Burano, famous for its beautiful houses and lace!

Getting to Murano Island must be done by boat.  You can take a water taxi which may cost eighty to a hundred euro each way, take a Vaporetto (water bus), which may cost around 10€ each way, or join a tour.  We recommend tours because they are priced reasonably, and a friendly local guide curates your experience!

Expect a full demonstration on Murano island by professional glass blowers who have passed down the trade through generations. After, you'll pass through a glass-blowing museum or showroom and have the opportunity to purchase a souvenir if you like.  Yes, this portion of the tour can feel a bit commercial, but this is the culture amongst the factories of Murano Island, and you are not required to purchase anything. 

Many tours also include visiting Burano Island, known for lace makers.  It's a beautiful place full of colorful houses and rich culture.  These islands are part of Venice, although they are not so close to the central island cluster with St Mark's Square. All the tours include transportation from a central meeting point in Venice to all your destinations and back to the main island cluster of Venice.
