Itinerary
Your tour begins outside Central Market Hall
Meet your guide at the main entrance of Budapest’s Central Market Hall and step into the city’s most iconic food hall. Start with quick orientation, then head inside to get your bearings among paprika stalls, butchers, and produce stands.
Browse the market and taste local favorites
Follow your expert English-speaking guide through the aisles as you sample Hungarian specialties and learn what makes the ingredients distinct. Along the way, pick up shopping tips and hear the stories behind classic flavors you’ll see across Budapest menus.
Head to a local apartment kitchen
After your market experience, continue to a nearby apartment set up for cooking. Settle in, meet your host, and get introduced to the dishes you’ll be making together using fresh ingredients gathered from the market.
Snack as you prep your meal, step by step
Before you start cooking, dig into a spread of Hungarian bites like cured meats, cheeses, and pickles. Then roll up your sleeves and follow clear, hands-on instruction as you cook 2 traditional Hungarian dishes together, chicken paprikash with dumplings and mákos guba, the beloved poppy seed bread dessert.
Sit down for wine pairing and a palinka tasting
Once everything is ready, enjoy your meal family-style with local wine and a homemade palinka, Hungarian fruit brandy, tasting. Trade stories, compare notes on what you cooked, and leave with practical know-how you can actually recreate back home.
Your tour ends back at Central Market Hall
After the meal, you’ll wrap up and head back toward the market area where the experience began. Leave with a full stomach, a clearer sense of Hungarian cuisine, and a few new favorites to look for during the rest of your time in Budapest.
