St. Mark’s Basilica
One of the world’s most opulent churches, it has earned its nickname, The Church of Gold. Known for its long lines and incredible gilded interiors, St. Mark’s is a symbol of historical Venetian power. With similarities in architecture to the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, the Eastern influence of the Church is evident. Representing the trade connections as a world port, the Church is one of the most impressive in Italy. Learn about the Basilica’s history, see it’s grandeur and learn about the controversial acquisition of it’s relics.

The oldest bridge in Venice, the original Rialto Bridge was built from broken gondolas in 1181. Rebuilt into its present stone edition in 1591 it connects the central Rialto neighborhood to Saint Mark’s. The wonderful bridge is normally overflowing with tourists, vendors and chaos but your guide will provide you with the bridge without the crowds.

This massive castle is located right next to St. Mark’s Basilica in St. Mark’s Square was the political and administrative capitol building of Venice from 1340 until 1797 when Napoleon took the city. The Palace though maybe most known for its use as a prison, especially its infamous cells “I Piombi” or “The leads” where prisoners including Casanova were kept. Casanova tells the tales of his stay and escape from the Doge’s Palace in his book Story of My Life.

Great Overview, Lots of Info
Wonderful and efficient tour of the highlights of the city and enough history to put things in context. I especially liked the mini tour of the Prado as well as the specific recommendations for cafes. Very knowledgeable and engaging guide! I've never been to Madrid and this convinced me that I need to go in person when I can.
