Itinerary
Meet your guide at Largo Del Colonnato
Begin your morning right outside of St. Peter’s Basilica, where you’ll meet your friendly guide and group of fellow travelers. Settle in, receive your priority entrance tickets, and get ready for a packed morning of unforgettable Vatican experiences.
See St. Peter's Square
Roam through Vatican City’s breathtaking main plaza. Designed by the masterful Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the square is lined by 284 massive columns and 140 statues of saints. Hear the fascinating stories behind this architectural wonder as you prepare to enter the Basilica.
Climb the St. Peter's Basilica Dome
Take the elevator to the lower level of St. Peter’s Dome to reach the first terrace. Then walk up the remaining 320 stone steps to reach the very top. The reward is an absolutely unforgettable, 360-degree panoramic view stretching across Vatican City and the entire Eternal City of Rome!
Step inside St. Peter's Basilica
After your climb, return to ground level for an explanation of the world's largest church. Learn about the Basilica’s most incredible works of art and magnificent architecture, including Michelangelo’s Pietà and Bernini’s stunning Baldacchino altar.
Enter the Vatican Museums
Next, swiftly enter the Vatican Museums with your priority timed entry tickets. Begin your guided exploration through this historic collection, moving through key areas that hold some of the world’s most precious art and archaeological treasures.
Walk outside into the Pinecone Courtyard
Follow your guide into the stunning Pinecone Courtyard. This impressive space is named for the colossal ancient Roman bronze pinecone that sits in the center. You'll see a captivating mix of ancient and contemporary art, providing a beautiful space to pause before moving into the museum proper.
Wander the halls of the Pio-Clementino Museum
Then, explore the halls of the prestigious Pio-Clementino Museum, home to some of the world's most renowned classical sculptures. Discover masterpieces like Laocoön and His Sons and the enormous, opulent red marble tub once belonging to Emperor Nero.
Discover the Gallery of Maps
Follow your guide into the dazzling Gallery of Maps. This magnificent hall is famous for its massive, stunning topographical frescoes. Based on the work of Ignazio Danti, these beautiful maps depict detailed representations of Italy’s many regions and cities, painted across the walls.
Pause in the Raphael Rooms
After that, step into the spectacular Raphael Rooms. These four stunning rooms are covered in frescoes by the renowned Renaissance artist, including his iconic School of Athens. Learn the hidden meanings and history behind these amazing works.
Stand awestruck in the Sistine Chapel
Finally, enter the world-famous Sistine Chapel. Marvel at Michelangelo’s incredible and intricate fresco The Creation of Man which adorns the ceiling, and his monumental Last Judgement behind the altar. As this is a silent place of worship, your guide will give you an in-depth explanation beforehand.
Your tour finishes inside the Vatican Museums
The guided portion of your tour concludes inside the Sistine Chapel. You'll have the option to continue roaming through the immaculate Vatican Museums at your leisure, allowing you to revisit your favorite galleries or explore others.

Good to know:
Dress Code: As the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica, are deeply religious sites, everyone must cover their knees and shoulders. Guests who do not meet the dress code may be refused entry by security officials. No hats or flip flops please.
Accessibility: Unfortunately, this tour is not wheelchair accessible. This tour is not recommended for those with claustrophobia or limited mobility, as the final ascent to the dome top involves a narrow, ancient stairway of about 320 steps. A foldable umbrella stroller can be utilized in the Vatican Museums, but cannot be used in St. Peter's Basilica. A soft baby carrier is recommended.
Elevator Access: The final portion of the dome climb (320 steps) must be done by stairs, even with elevator access to the first level.
Tour Changes: The Basilica is closed on Wednesday mornings due to the Papal Audience. During state visits or special religious events, parts of the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica may be closed unexpectedly and without much notice, in which case we will reach out to assist you in rescheduling.
Lines: This tour grants you group access to the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica. While you'll bypass the long line for independent visitors, there may still be a wait to get through security.
Please Note: The Sistine Chapel is a place of worship, so visitors are not allowed to speak inside the chapel. Your guide will explain what you'll see in advance.
Check-in: Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in at the meeting point so the group can enter sites on time.

We had such a wonderful experience on this tour. Yes, it was hot and a lot of walking, and the Vatican is very crowded. Sometimes, you even feel like you’re being herded through. However, Loretta, our guide made sure to make the experience was easy and as friendly as possible. She was knowledgeable about the site, showed us everything and even took us to places that weren’t advertised. Highly recommend this tour to skip the line and to avoid the hassle of the Vatican crowds.

Our tour of St. Peter’s Basilica, the Dome Climb, the Vatican Museums, and the Sistine Chapel was the absolute highlight of our time in Rome. Francesco was an exceptional guide—a true wealth of knowledge who brought centuries of history, art, and architecture to life with fascinating stories and insights. He was incredibly patient, never rushed our group, and took the time to answer every question thoughtfully. It was obvious that he genuinely loves what he does, and his passion for sharing the history and significance of the Vatican made the experience unforgettable. The tour was well organized, informative, and perfectly paced. Climbing the dome was an amazing experience with breathtaking views, and having Francesco guide us through the Basilica, Vatican Museums, and Sistine Chapel gave us a much deeper appreciation for everything we were seeing. If you’re visiting the Vatican, do yourself a favor and book this tour—especially if Francesco is your guide. It was worth every penny and is an experience we’ll never forget.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and took the time to point out the most important parts of the cathedral and museum. Without a tour guide it would have been a daunting task as the Vatican is so large and has so many piece of history. Skipping the line was also great as it was hot that day and waiting outside in the sun would not have been fun. Highly recommend an early tour especially to climb the dome due to increasing temperatures. Loved seeing the city and Rome from this vantage point.
