Your tour begins early in the morning in Duomo Square
Gather outside the Cathedral's main entrance as the city still sleeps. Your guide introduces you to the official chiavigero (Florence's key master) who's about to unlock the Duomo's massive doors. You're among the first to step inside, long before the crowds arrive.
Watch as the Cathedral lights switch on
Stand in near silence as the key master flips the lights, and watch the vault illuminate above you. Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari's "Last Judgement" fresco unfolds across 3,600 square meters of ceiling in vivid color. It's a private moment with one of the Renaissance's greatest masterpieces.
Admire Paolo Uccello's Duomo clock
Next, your guide leads you to a stunning fresco clock designed by legendary artist Paolo Uccello. Learn why the hours run counterclockwise and what this unique timepiece meant to Florence's early worshippers. The marble-lined cathedral feels nearly empty, giving you space to take in every detail.

Continue through Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence's architectural crown jewel that took nearly 150 years to complete. Your guide shares stories of the Medici family, Brunelleschi's innovations, and the craftsmen who shaped this Gothic masterpiece.
Enter Brunelleschi's dome through a private entrance
Walk through the Porta Canonici, a side door reserved just for your group. From here, you'll begin climbing 463 steep steps up a winding staircase that leads to the rooftop. Your legs will feel it, but the reward is worth every step.
Stand inside Brunelleschi's cupola and see Florence from above
Reach the top and pause to catch your breath while your guide explains how Filippo Brunelleschi engineered this impossible dome without scaffolding. Step out onto the rooftop terrace and take in sweeping views of Florence's terracotta roofs, the Arno River, and the hills beyond.
Your tour finishes at the Duomo as the city wakes

Dress Code: Both men and women must cover their knees and shoulders for entry into the Cathedral, and access to the Cupola will be denied if wearing high heels, flip-flops, slippers, clogs, or similar unstable footwear.
Accessibility: This tour is not wheelchair accessible due to the 463 steep steps required to climb Brunelleschi’s dome.
Please Note: This is an exclusive, early-morning tour that starts before the general public is allowed inside the Cathedral.

We really enjoyed the early morning Duomo dome climb and tour of the cathedral. Our guide was excellent. She carefully explained what was going to happen during the tour, had excellent information about the history and building of the dome and was professional and friendly. We highly recommend this tour.

We enjoyed everything about the early morning Duomo tour! Communication was great and being the first people in the cathedral was awesome! It’s a lot of steps but definitely worth it for the views and the level of access. Who knew you could walk between the domes??!! Highly recommend!

Loved seeing the gate keeper open the gate at 7am. Also, if you are going to climb the Duomo, this 7am tour is perfect, not hot at all and our guide was amazing!

We loved this tour. Having the opportunity to be the first ones inside the Duomo was very unique. Laura, our guide, was excellent and very encouraging. Having even a few minutes up on the roof before the crowds arrived was amazing. Highly recommended!

Meeting point voucher had conflicting times, 10 & 15 minutes prior. We arrived 10 minutes before at the designated area and no one was there, no guide, no tour participants. Stood there for half an hour and attempted to call and email the ‘day of’ contacts. We were eventually told we were marked as ‘no shows’. NOT TRUE!! Extremely upset as I feel we were lied to.

Highly recommend this tour. The streets of Florence are so quiet at the start of the tour. It provides a unique experience of the city. Then the tour begins. Laura provided a thorough overview of the history of the chapel in the description of the fresco. There is a brief break, and then the climb begins. It truly was not that bad! There were brief stops along the way, which made the climb completely manageable and provided unique perspectives of the fresco. Once you get to the top, the views are stunning! Laura was such a wonderful guide, and we loved the experience!
