Itinerary
Meet your guide on the Royal Mile
Meet your guide (holding a Navy Blue Umbrella) at 180 High Street to begin your exploration of the Old Town. Your tour starts immediately on the Royal Mile with an introduction to the city and its medieval history.
Mercat Cross and Closes
Walk the Royal Mile and see the city's narrow alleyways, 'closes', while learning their historical use. You will make an initial stop at the Mercat Cross, a site once used for public announcements and punishment.
St Giles' Cathedral
Continue the journey to St Giles' Cathedral. Your guide will discuss its architecture, the history of the Presbyterian religion, and the Act of Union at West Parliament Square.
Writers' Museum and Makars’ Court
Proceed along the Royal Mile, viewing the Heart of Midlothian mosaic before exploring Makars’ Court, just off the Royal Mile, and continuing past the Writers' Museum.
Victoria Street and Grassmarket
The tour continues as you descend to Victoria Street, one of the most colorful, picturesque streets, noted for its quirky shops. This leads down to the Grassmarket, a large plaza with a dark past.
Castle Esplanade Views
From the Grassmarket, you will ascend the hill to the Castle Esplanade to enjoy stunning panoramic views over the city and see the gathering point for the famous One O’Clock Gun Firing.
Edinburgh Castle
Follow your guide to enter Edinburgh Castle with your included ticket. Enjoy the guided tour inside the fortress, covering the history and secrets, including the stories of kings, queens, and sieges in the outdoor area.
The tour ends with free time inside the castle
After the guided visit, you have free time to explore the castle. You can visit the Crown Jewels, the Great Hall, and St Margaret's Chapel, or simply enjoy the majestic views.

Accessibility: This tour requires a moderate physical fitness level and is not recommended for people with back problems or reduced mobility. There are three sets of steps and two steep paths.
Bag Policy: Suitcases and large rucksacks are not permitted inside Edinburgh Castle and must be left behind.
Strollers: Strollers may be allowed, but a baby carrier is recommended for accessing certain locations.
Check-in: Please arrive ten minutes before the start time to check in with your guide, who will be holding a Navy Blue Umbrella.
