Guided Tour

Meet your guide at Piazza Farnese

Meet your guide at Piazza Farnese

Meet your group and guide at the fountain in the beautiful Piazza Farnese. This charming square, lined with quaint cafes and bursting with local life, is the perfect, picturesque spot to begin your culinary journey into the heart of authentic Roman food culture.

Stop for a Roman Salumeria (Deli) tasting

Next, you’ll head to a family-owned deli, a local institution for over 100 years. You’ll sample expertly cured prosciutto and salamis, local cheeses, and regional wines, all while learning the secrets of century-old techniques from the family.

Sample traditional baccalà (salted Cod) or supplì

After that, you'll stop for another beloved Roman street food. Depending on the day, you'll try either crispy supplì, a deep-fried rice croquette with a gooey mozzarella centre, or baccalà, lightly battered salted cod. As you snack, your guide will share the story behind these local favourites over another glass of regional wine.

Sit-down for a three-course Roman dinner

Then, it's time to sit down and relax at a local Trastevere restaurant for an authentic three-course Roman meal. You’ll sample an appetizer, two popular Roman pasta dishes, and the famous Saltimbocca alla Romana (veal, prosciutto, and sage), all paired with local wines.

Enjoy a digestivo (Limoncello)

No authentic Italian meal is complete without a digestivo. You’ll cap off your flavorful three-course meal with a delightful limoncello, a bright, citrus-flavored liquor long loved for its perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors.

Taste artisanal gelato

Finally, you’ll end the night with a grand finale: a sweet treat of delicious gelato. Learn how to distinguish between true artisanal flavors crafted with local ingredients and their artificial counterparts while tasting some of the best organic gelato in Trastevere.

Your tour finishes in Trastevere

The guided portion ends outside a local restaurant in Trastevere. Feel free to continue wandering the neighborhood’s lively streets or ask your guide for tips on what to explore next.

After a day of travel, we kicked off our Italy adventure with a food tour in Trastavere. Our guide, Rosalba, was an amazing & knowledgeable host who provided us with wonderful insights regarding the foods of Rome. We began in Piazza Farnese with a sampling of wine, meats and cheeses. We then crossed the bridge and entered Trastavere, where we enjoyed “supli” and more wine, before heading to another establishment for dinner and yes…more wine. Our evening concluded with a stop for delicious gelato. Highly recommend this tour - and request native Roman, Rosalba, as your guide. You will not be disappointed!

We arrived in Rome at noon and this was the perfect activity to get the evening started. Marco was our tour guide and he was fantastic. We were actually delayed in getting to the meeting point and he communicated with us clearly and allowed us to meet them ar the first stop. Would recommend this tour to anyone that is visiting Rome for the first time or the twentieth time. Enjoy!

We went on the Trastevere Food Tour last night and had a wonderful time. Our guide Iralia was knowledgeable and personable, the group was small (only 9 plus our guide), the food was delicious and plentiful and the sights incredible. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in getting slightly off the beaten path of the usual Roman attractions and enjoys learning more about the local culture.

FAQs

Do the tasting stops on this tour ever change?

Stops and tastings on this tour are subject to change due to seasonal/holiday venue closures. As the places we frequent on this Trastevere Rome food tour are local institutions and family-run businesses, they can close at any time with little-to-no warning. In this situation, your guide will take you to another popular eatery nearby.

Can I bring my kids and do I have to pay for them?

If your child is under 6 years of age and will not be eating during the tour, you do not need to pay for them. If they will eat food at any stop, please select the "youth" category before checkout and add them to your group in order to save them a seat at the dinner table.

What if I have food allergies, intolerances, or other requirements?

Please contact us in advance so we can do our best to accommodate your needs. We will work with our tour partners to provide you an alternative when possible.

How many glasses of wine will I get?

You'll enjoy three glasses, but in many places, it is served in a carafe which is the typical serving style in Rome. In this case, you might enjoy more than three glasses of wine, but we recommend not overdoing it so you can enjoy your evening (and the following morning).

What to bring?

Come hungry and wear comfortable shoes, since you'll be walking between tasting stops.

Where to meet?

Meet your guide at Piazza Farnese by the fountain on the right (when facing Palazzo Farnese). A friendly representative will be there holding a sign with our company name on it. Your tour will end at a restaurant in Trastevere.

Can I still come if I don't drink alcohol?

Yes, you're welcome to come! Just reach out to us directly so we can work with our partners to accommodate your needs.

How much walking is on this tour?

On this tour, there will be a fair amount of walking - still at a relaxed pace - with a maximum of 15 minutes walking between stops. There will be 4 stops on this tour so the group will walk to each one.

What restaurants are visited on this tour?

The restaurants are subject to change depending on availability!
