Your tour begins near St. Peter's Square
Meet your friendly, expert guide near St. Peter's Square. Look for the exact location on your booking voucher. Gather with your group then make your way toward St. Peter's Basilica.
Use the elevator to ride to the first level of the dome
Take the elevator up to the first level, where elaborate mosaics cover the interior. Step outside onto the terrace for an iconic view of Vatican City stretching before you.
Climb to the top of St. Peter's Dome
From here, you'll have the option to climb 320 ancient stone steps to reach the summit. The stairway gets narrow and a bit claustrophobic, but the reward is well worth it, an epic panoramic view of the Vatican and Rome's historic center.

Back at ground level, your guide will share the fascinating history of the world's largest church before you step inside, setting the stage for the history and art you're about to see.

Good to know:
Dress Code: Modest attire is required for St. Peter’s Basilica, meaning shoulders and knees must be covered for all participants; no hats or flip flops please.
Accessibility: This tour is not recommended for those with claustrophobia or limited mobility, as the final ascent to the dome top involves a narrow, ancient stairway of about 320 steps. Strollers are not allowed inside St. Peter's Basilica.
Please Note: The final portion of the dome climb (320 steps) must be done by stairs, even with elevator access to the first level.
Tour Changes: The Basilica is closed on Wednesday mornings due to the Papal Audience. During state visits or special religious events, parts of St. Peter's Basilica may be closed unexpectedly and without much notice, in which case we will reach out to assist you in rescheduling.
Check-in: Please arrive 15 minutes early for check-in at the meeting point so the group can begin the tour on time.

The 2 1/2 hours felt short although it was 7:15 in the morning. Wo definitely do it again! It was not like in school but just easy to listen, many side facts and interesting details!

This was one of the best tours that I’ve ever taken!!! Our tour guy was super knowledgeable about all things Vatican!! I couldn’t make the climb due to health conditions, but she stayed with me and guided me to the end of the climb. She was wonderful!!!!

Our tour guide Maria was superb! St. Peter’s Basilica is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The view from the dome was spectacular. Tour check in was very straightforward. Again I can’t say enough about our tour guide Maria, very knowledgeable with a great sense of humor.

We had a very early morning start at St. Peters to avoid the long lines. Our tour guide was FANTASTIC and the climb to the top of the dome is not for the faint of heart. It is so worth it once you get there. One of my best tours in Rome.

I booked this tour mainly to climb the dome and see the city from above. It was a great experience and I lucked out with the weather that morning. The tour made the experience go smoother and going early at 7:15 am meant a much shorter line for security which can get pretty crazy later in the day. The basilica itself was breathtaking and I appreciated the information the tour guide gave us.

Absolutely worth to take this early morning tour as wasn't very crowded and we had very little time waiting in lines. When we finished there were thousands of people lined up. The climb wasn't bad at all and what views! The basilica is absolutely breathtaking. Bernini's cherubs were my favorite as you can literally view them face to face. Agnese was a great tour director and kept us all organized and informed on what we were looking at. Highly recommend!

Very knowledgeable guide and very clear directions. Excellent time to see the square. Would not want to take the stairs if it was packed with people. Not for anyone claustrophobic. Very tight squeeze when some older participants had to take a break and let others behind them pass.
