Potsdam is a UNESCO treasure of such scale it feels like a movie set, featuring 17 different palaces built to show off the ultimate wealth of German kings. These royal estates are too giant for a stroll and closed to cars—making bikes the only way to see it all. Glide through Sanssouci’s gardens, the historic Dutch Quarter, and the site of the 1945 Potsdam Conference. While most travelers never leave the city center, you’ll be the one sharing stories of Germany’s hidden royal capital.

Itinerary

Meet your guide in Alexanderplatz

Your tour begins at the base of Berlin's iconic TV Tower. After a quick intro, you'll board the train together to Potsdam, where comfortable city-cruiser bikes are waiting for your ride through Prussian history and Cold War intrigue.

Explore Sanssouci Palace and gardens

Once in Potsdam, hop on your bike and pedal into the sprawling Sanssouci park, Frederick the Great's summer retreat. You'll circle the terraced vineyards and golden façade of the palace itself, learning how this Rococo gem earned its nickname "Prussian Versailles" without the crowds.

Cycle past the Chinese Tea House and Orangerie

Next, wind through the park's tree-lined paths to spot the whimsical Chinese Tea House, a gilded pavilion topped with a golden mandarin, and the grand Orangerie with its Renaissance-inspired towers.

Visit the New Palace

Pedal to the far end of the park to see the New Palace, a colossal Baroque showpiece built to prove Prussia's power after the Seven Years' War.

Explore Potsdam's Dutch Quarter and enjoy lunch

Ride into Potsdam's charming historic center, where red-brick gabled houses line cobbled streets in the Dutch Quarter, built for Dutch craftsmen in the 1700s. You'll have free time here to wander the boutiques, grab lunch at a local café, and soak in the village-like atmosphere.
